What is the eCheckup?

The eCHECKUP TO GO is an anonymous online assessment tool developed by San Diego State University to help educate and inform young adults about their drinking habits and lifestyle. More and more research suggests that alcohol education is not enough. Though the eCHECKUP offers educational information, it was designed as a personalized interactive intervention tool, which has shown promising results in research studies. (Walters, Miller & Chiauzzi, 2005; Kypri et al., 2003, Paperny et al., 1990, Miller E.T., 2000), and report positive changes in health behavior (Kaiser Family Foundation, 2001).

Who is at risk for abuse?

High risk drinking can potentially effect anyone at any stage of his or her life. The Live More Drink Less campaign and the eCHECKUP TO GO focus on interventions for 21-25 year olds because of the transitional period many in the young adult age range face. No one factor can determine alcohol dependance. It is often a combination of environmental and behavioral factors. Taking the  eCHECKUP TO GO can help answer important questions about how risk factors such as ,who you live with and their drinking habits or if members of your immediate family have stuggled with alcohol, and how that may affect your drinking.

Remember, though it is meant for young adults, the eCHECKUP TO GO can be beneficial to any age in regards to alcohol abuse and binge drinking.

What is Binge Drinking?

Binge drinking is the most common pattern of excessive alcohol use in the United States. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism defines binge drinking as a pattern of drinking that brings a person's blood alcohol concentration (BAC) to 0.08 grams percent or above. This typically happens when men consume 5 or more drinks, and when women consume 4 or more drinks, in about 2 hours.

*1 of every 5 Vermonters binge drinks every day.
